Grants for Veterans and their families

Funding is given based on these six priorities:

Understanding:

• The unique impact of Service life on families
• The changing nature and needs of the Armed Forces community

Supporting improvement that:

• Empowers the system and individual
• Increases collaboration
• Take account of the unique conditions and impact on health and wellbeing
• Improves awareness of Armed Forces in mainstream services

What they can fund:

• A project where the proposed outcomes meet an identified need within our priority areas.
• Projects that have the potential to make a difference beyond their initial scope. This could mean expanding a successful approach to reach more people or places, replicating it across different local areas or devolved nations, or developing and testing an approach that could be adopted by other organisations.
• A project which can bring about sustainable change.
• They welcome applications from various organisations from small not-for-profit groups and charities to larger institutions such as universities and established policy ‘think tanks’.
• They have no minimum amount that applicants can apply for.
• The majority of their grants are for up to two years, but they have no minimum term.

They will not support:

• Projects that do not benefit serving personnel, veterans or their families.
• Projects that do not deliver a direct benefit in the UK. (This does not exclude projects supporting Foreign and Commonwealth personnel who have served in the UK Armed Forces).
• Activities that are primarily the responsibility of central or local government or other statutory providers, or projects that replace statutory funding.
• Service delivery, unless it forms part of a wider project whose primary purpose is to address one or more of the FiMT funding priorities.
• General fundraising appeals or circulars.

They do not fund the following costs:

• Capital costs, including building work and renovations.
• Ongoing costs for existing or established projects.
• Retrospective funding for activities that have already taken place.

They do not accept applications from the following:

• Individuals, including individuals undertaking research (such as PhD students). Supporting individuals is the primary role of Service charities and benevolent funds.
• Profit-making organisations, unless the project is being delivered as part of a corporate social responsibility programme that directly benefits serving personnel, veterans or their families.
• Churches or other religious organisations where the grant would be used for religious purposes.
