Conservation and Environment Trainee

Introduction:

The Together Initiative in Gainsborough are looking for a Conservation and Environment Trainee.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone at the start of their career, or contemplating a career change, who is passionate about the environment and wants to gain hands-on experience in community green space projects.

Working alongside our experienced Green Team Lead, you will help maintain and improve local green spaces while developing practical, leadership and employability skills.

Based on the Green Team’s work in environmental stewardship, volunteer development and community engagement, the role provides experience across conservation, habitat management and community projects.

Job Details:

Job Title: Conservation and Environment Trainee

Salary: £5,000 per annum pro rata (£25,000 FTE)

Hours: 1 day per week (7.5 hours total)

Pension Scheme: (optional) 3% employer contribution, 5% employee contribution

Contract: Week beginning 14th Sept 2026 – Sept 2027. Potential extension and expansion subject to project growth and further funding being secured. Six-months’ probation period

Reporting to: Green Team Lead

Location: Based at x-church and Scouts Hill in Gainsborough, with outdoor activities across local green projects (including Scouts Hill, Thorndike Way, Ashcroft Green and x-church Gardens).

Key Responsibilities

Assist the Green Team Lead to:

  • Plan and coordinate the weekly and seasonal volunteer team sessions, supporting participants in green space maintenance, practical conservation, food growing, and habitat management activities.
  • Develop and maintain Scouts Hill and Together’s other green space projects.
  • Support and develop the volunteer team, helping local people connect with nature and develop life and work skills.
  • Maintain the day-to-day management of the project, including risk assessments, health & safety, and record-keeping.
