Active MSK Programme

Introduction:

Does your client have knee, hip or joint pain and live in the West Lindsey area? Then the Active MSK Programme (previously Fit for Surgery) could be right for them.

Individuals who meet the inclusion criteria will be receive a free 6-month subscription, providing access to a range of facilities, classes, and activities.

This includes initial consultation, 6 and 12-week review and 6-month check in.

What does the Programme Involve?

The Active MSK programme aims to support individuals who are experiencing chronic joint pain of the which is affecting their ability to work effectively for their job role, leading to regular sick leave, and/or the inability to work.

Individuals who meet the inclusion criteria will be receive a 6-month subscription, providing access to a range of facilities, classes, and activities.

This will include an initial consultation with our exercise referral specialist, followed by a 6-, 12-, and 6-month health check.

Classes provided as part of the subscription will be appropriate to the individual and include gym support sessions, aquatic circuits, toning suite, seated exercise, escape pain classes, and pain cafés.
Individual’s will have access to unlimited access to the above sessions for the duration of their programme.

Inclusion Criteria

NEW Inclusion Criteria, taking into account the NEW ‘Self-Referral’ pathway:

  • Adults aged 18 years and older
  • Doing less than 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week
  • Presence of a chronic Muscular Skeletal Condition: –
    • Lower Back Pain
    • Knee Pain
    • Hip Pain
    • Neck and/or Shoulder Pain
  • Duration of pain symptoms 12> weeks or more
  • Functional limitation, not able to perform normal daily activities due to the MSK condition
  • Are medically fit to participate in a physical activity programme

Each individual will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the exercise referral manager and the referring practitioners.

How to Sign up

To sign up contact your local GP, healthcare professional, physio, social prescriber, or first contact practitioner for a referral.

There is also a ‘Self Referral Pathway’ where an individual can refer themselves by completing a
Active MSK Survey whereby the MSK Practitioner will assess their risk rating against the inclusion criteria.

Where Does the Programme Take Place?

There are two locations that the Fit for Surgery programme takes place which are:

West Lindsey Leisure Centre, The Avenue, Gainsborough DN21 1EP

Specific focus on residents living in:

  • Gainsborough East Ward
  • Gainsborough Southwest Ward
  • Hemswell RAF Community

Market Rasen Leisure Centre, Gainsborough Road, Market Rasen, LN8 3JW

Specific focus on residents living in:

  • Wolds View – Binbrook
  • Brookenby
  • Swinhope

Drop-in Session: Tea and Talk

This is a chance to have a chat and ask questions about the programme.

Individuals who meet the inclusion criteria will be receive a free 6-month subscription, providing access to a range of facilities, classes, and activities. Includes initial consultation, 6-and 12-week review and 6-month check in.

When: Tuesday 14th April 2026 from 6:00pm to 6:45pm
