Welcome to the LCVS News Round Up November 2024.
Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS) staff and volunteers, have been busy during the month of November with lots happening in our local communities, so in this November 2024 news round up, we will share with you some of the things we have been doing.
On Saturday 2nd November, Donna Walker, our senior social prescribing link worker, and Lisa Jones Spalding PCN manager, abseiled down Peterborough hospital to help raise money for the Cancer Wellbeing Service.
Although Donna described her legs as turning to ‘jelly’ and her body’ shaking all over’ when she was at the top and about to go over, they both successfully abseiled down the hospital helping to raise an amazing £400.00 for the charity.
Collectively over £35,000 was raised for the Cancer Wellbeing Service so this will ensure the service can continue offering their amazing support to everyone.

Our Environmental Programme Team Leaders Jackie and Leanne have been busy with the Boston Green Volunteers during November, helping to tidy up various areas around Boston town centre, as well as weeding, and planting new shrubs, bulbs and flowers.
They have also spent time with the Young People’s Learning Division, creating bird feeders and bird boxes for the Fountain Lane garden, been at the Zion Methodist Church Hall to talk rubbish and are helping to create a recycled greenhouse at Geoff Moulder Community Garden.
Areas of the town to benefit from their help in November include:

During November, LCVS Social Prescribers, Paul Noon, Mel Clare, and Andy Wilkes were at Eastgate Church in Louth on the 20th November and Louth Methodist Church on the 22nd November, to engage with the Louth community to promote LCVS services, specifically Social Prescribing in the area.
Despite the inclement weather, the team still had several positive engagements with 21 discussions about social prescribing, 4 about volunteering and 3 about our group support, all of which raised the profile of LCVS within the community.
A big thanks to Eastgate Church and Methodist Church who were our hosts.

Community Development and Volunteer Officers Victoria and Evie and First Coastal Social Prescribing Link Worker Jo-anne had a fantastic meeting at The Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe Dunes with Noor and Reneta from Natural England.
They met to discuss ways of working together to benefit the local community. Discussions around the importance and history of the land brought conversations of maintenance and volunteer opportunities.
Future working together brought conversations of inclusive activities for all ages and abilities as well as highlighting wellbeing and the mental health benefits of the nature reserve.
For more information on Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Nature Reserve visit the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust website.

Vicky and Evie, Community Development and Volunteer Officers for LCVS, attended the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) event at Boston College, helping to promote our wide range of local opportunities to the DWP over 50’s clients.

Evie, one of our Community Development and Volunteering Officers and Rachel our Community Transport project officer, headed over to Mablethorpe to find out more about how the community minibus run by Hope House operates and what support our team can offer to keep the bus busy.
Community transport is vital for a county the size of Lincolnshire, where some remote communities solely rely on volunteer car schemes and community minibuses to get to medical appointments, go shopping and even go to community groups.

Our Placetalk team have been busy in Mablethorpe during November, where they took their pop-up kiosk to both the Tesco superstore foyer and Coop foyer, to speak with local residents about what matters to them in the community they live in, and for local residents to share their views and ideas about Mablethorpe.
Plus they were joined online by 24 people for a ‘tea and talk’ at home Zoom meeting, which was set up for residents that were unable go and see them in both Tesco and Coop.
