The Lincolnshire Recovery College are about to start creating a new suicide prevention course, specifically aimed at carers/supporters of someone who has actually attempted (but not died by) suicide.
As all of their courses are co-produced, they are looking for people with relevant lived experience to help them.
The new course is aimed specifically at carers/supporters/family members of someone who has attempted suicide.
Hence, they are looking to recruit a small number of carers/supporters/family members who have supported someone who has attempted suicide to co-produce the course with them. (Please note the course is not intended for those who have been bereaved by suicide.)
Co-production is a team effort where service users, professionals, and other stakeholders work together equally. This approach makes sure the course content is relevant and engaging by bringing in different perspectives and expertise.
Participants will need to:
Co-production will involve attending and actively participating in a handful of meetings at roughly 3-4 weekly intervals. The meetings are likely to be held in Lincoln, though may be accessible online via Teams.
The meetings will openly explore themes around supporting someone who has attempted to take their own life, so inevitably will be dealing with emotive and sensitive issues which participants may find triggering and distressing.
As such, potential participants will need to consider very carefully how discussing suicide affects them mentally and emotionally, and whether they are able to practice self-care and can access additional appropriate support if needed.
