Music Therapy Lincolnshire

Introduction:

Music therapy is an established psychological clinical intervention, delivered by HCPC-registered Music Therapists to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.

Central to how Music Therapy works is the therapeutic relationship that is developed between the Therapist and the Client through engagement in live musical interaction and play.

A wide range of musical styles and instruments can be used, including the voice, and the music can be improvised or structured (such as in song writing).

Using music in this way enables Clients to create their own unique musical language in which to explore and connect with the world and express themselves.

Who can Benefit?

As musical participation does not depend solely on the ability to speal, Music Therapy is a particularly effective clinical intervention for people who have difficulty communicating verbally – this could be due to a medical condition, or as a result of trauma.

Music Therapists are Allied Health Professionals and frequently work as members of multi-disciplinary teams in health, social care and education. They work across the lifespan including:

  • Children and Young People
  • Adults with Learning Difficulties
  • Autistic Spectrum Conditions
  • Children, Adolescent and Adult Mental Health Settings
  • Elderly care
  • Neuro-disability
  • Prisons
  • Child and Adult Hospices

This service is particularly effective for individuals who:

  • Are Neurodivergent (Autism/ADHD): Music therapy can assist with sensory regulation, social communication, and anxiety management.
  • Experience Mental Health Challenges: It provides a creative outlet for those with depression or low mood who find “talking” overstimulating or difficult.
  • Have Experienced Trauma: It offers a safe, non-verbal way to process emotional distress without the pressure of direct verbal disclosure.
  • Are Children or Young People: It supports emotional regulation, builds self-esteem, and helps those who are disengaged from traditional education or therapy.
