Lincolnshire Integrated Care System (ICS) has refreshed its ReSPECT (Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment) policy.
The changes make personalised emergency care planning clearer, quicker, and more consistent.
Both registered and non-registered staff across health, social care, and voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE)settings can now begin and contribute to ReSPECT conversations. That means earlier discussions, in familiar settings, with people who already know the individual well.
A GP signature is no longer required. Instead, a relevant registered clinician involved in the person’s care can sign, reducing delays while keeping appropriate clinical oversight.
A single Lincolnshire-wide template and clearer guidance help ensure ReSPECT plans are recognised and followed wherever care is delivered.
Together, these changes help ensure emergency care reflects what matters most to each person, while reducing distress for individuals, families, and carers at times of crisis.
They also support lawful, ethical and person-centred decision-making, remove unnecessary delays, and promote consistent and safe use of ReSPECT plans across all Lincolnshire care settings.
