The 2025 revision of the English Indices of Deprivation have been released. Many of their analyses on place-based inequalities are grounded in this dataset, and until now they have been relying on the 2019 version.
The index is a composite measure that combines multiple domains of deprivation, each of which can be explored individually depending on the focus of your analysis.
The UK Government website has an excellent and accessible explainer outlining how the indices are constructed and detailing the methodological updates and data source revisions since 2019. To access the explainer please follow this link to the UK Government website.
For a quick interactive view, The Guardian has produced a handy postcode/LSOA look-up tool showing how local areas rank nationally. To access the look-up tool please follow this link to The Guardian website.
