Shared Lives Carers provide people with the practical and emotional support they need to live life the way they want to.
You don’t need social care experience to become a Shared Lives carer – you just need a big heart and a spare room in your home.
Everyone has something valuable to bring, no matter what their background is.
Their carers come from all walks of life, whether you’ve been an HGV driver, finance banker, PA to a CEO, hairdresser, or counsellor, if you’ve got a big heart you’re already off to a great start.
They will give you all the training and support you need to be the best carer you can be.
What matters most is your kindness, patience, and willingness to make a real difference in someone’s life.
If you’re looking for a fulfilling, flexible career that’s all about making a positive impact from under your own roof then read on.
Shared Lives is a little bit like fostering, but with the big difference that it’s for people over the age of 16 (or 18 in Wales) who want to live as independently as possible.
Shared Lives carers provide people with the practical and emotional support they need to live life the way they want to.
Shared Lives carers support people either while they live with them, or just for the day.
They can also become a Shared Lives carer to continue supporting someone they foster after they turn 16 (if they have personal care support needs) or 18.
Support someone at home – As a Shared Lives carer, you can offer a whole range of different services to the people they support while they live with you and your family at your house. As a self-employed carer, you can choose which types of support you want to offer and choose who you support.
Continue caring for someone you foster – If you’re a foster carer, and the young adults you foster are about to leave the children’s care system, you can become a self-employed Shared Lives carer with PSS and continue to support them into adult life.
Support someone for the day – You can support people during the day as a PSS Shared Lives carer. With the Shared Days service, you can support people to do the things they enjoy most. This can be out and about or in your home, for a set amount of time. You don’t need any qualifications or previous caring experience as they will train you up.
